Health Care Advocates Rally To Protect Medicaid Against Harmful Policies

Tallahassee, Fla. – As Floridians continue to suffer with expensive health care costs, Florida lawmakers are considering policies to further cut off affordable health care options from low-income Floridians. These harmful bills come as a popular ballot initiative to help Floridians stuck in the coverage gap access Medicaid relaunches signature collection to give voters the choice to decide to expand Medicaid in 2028.

After Congress rushed to make historic cuts to Medicaid last year, Florida lawmakers are considering several bills that go beyond the requirements of the Congressional H.R. 1, like SB 1758 which adds a work requirement to Florida Medicaid that forces individuals to work themselves into the coverage gap.

With higher Marketplace insurance premiums, a lack of accountability on the KidCare expansion, failures from the executive agency, and more, Floridians are left wondering: what affordable health care options are there for the people?

Health care advocates from across the state will gather at the Florida Capitol this Wednesday, February 4th at 11:30 am to defend against Medicaid cuts on the state level while encouraging Floridians to sign the ballot initiative to put healthcare in our own hands.
