Catalyst Miami convenes local residents to reimagine our economy and advance economic justice from the ground up.
As Miami-Dade’s affordability crisis continues to push out working families, local nonprofit Catalyst Miami is stepping up with real solutions. On Saturday, May 31, Catalyst will host its annual Be the Catalyst Summit, a daylong event designed to put the people most impacted by economic inequality at the center of the conversation.
Held at Miami Dade College’s Padrón Campus from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the free event will bring together civic leaders, grassroots organizers, small business owners, and policy experts to address some of the county’s most urgent economic challenges — from sky-high housing costs to barriers to capital for entrepreneurs.
Award-winning journalist and Black Miami-Dade founder Nadege Green will open the summit with a powerful look back at Miami’s history of community economic development, including past cooperative movements and community ownership efforts.
Throughout the day, attendees can join panels and workshops on topics like:
- Participatory economic development
- Small business equity
- Alternative financing models
- Navigating Federal economic policies
- New governance strategies that empower residents
“The high cost of living in Miami-Dade didn’t happen by accident,” said Zelalem Adefris, CEO of Catalyst Miami, in a press release. “It’s the result of policies that have ignored the needs of working families. This summit is about shifting the narrative — centering the people who are the backbone of our economy.”
The summit, formerly known as the Poverty Solutions Summit, offers more than just conversation. It’s a blueprint for building an economy that’s equitable, cooperative, and locally driven.
The event is free and open to the public, with breakfast, lunch, childcare, and live interpretation in Spanish, Haitian Creole, and ASL provided. To register and learn more, visit catalystmiami.org/summit.
