Mama Joy

Meet the 2022 Community Catalyst Award Honoree

Anitrice "Mama Joy" Jackson is a community leader and advocate, Jackson Health System employee, mother, grandmother, and resident of Overtown with a deep love for her community. In 2013, Mama Joy turned her passion into action and founded her own nonprofit, Nana's Restart Organization.

Nana's Restart is a resource hub for Overtown community members in need. The organization serves anyone — from children to adults of all ages — by providing support with school supplies, uniforms, counseling for parents and returning citizens, holiday toy drives, food drives, and more.

Since she began, Mama Joy has been funding the work on her own dime. In 2021, she became a Catalyst Miami small business client and received technical assistance with logistics and marketing. She now has a website, nanasrestart.org, through which anyone can connect with her and support!

Mama Joy does grassroots advocacy work with the Overtown Community Champions team, and joined the 2022 Catalyst to the Capital trip to meet face-to-face with elected officials in Tallahassee. For all her work and leadership, we are thrilled to honor Mama Joy with the 2022 Community Catalyst Award.
