Racial Discrimination in the Enjoyment of the Right to Health
Following the passage of Florida Senate Bill 1718 which required (amongst other cruelties) that hospitals must ask for a patient's immigrant status, Catalyst Miami co-submitted the attached letter to the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination along with Community Justice Project, Florida Health Justice Project, and Florida Immigrant Coalition. This letter calls for naming screening questions like the one in SB1718 as a violation of our right to health due to its chilling effect on immigrants needing medical care.
