Why is it important to be counted in the census?

The distribution of billions of dollars is based on census data. That money funds almost everything around us, such as…

  • Public schools, early childhood education programs, school lunches, and other resources
  • Parks
  • Hospitals and clinics
  • Medicaid, Medicare, and children’s health insurance programs
  • Roads and public transportation
  • Public benefits, such as SNAP (also known as food stamps) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
  • Fire departments
  • And much more!

The best way to receive more funding for these programs and resources is by completing the census. It only takes 10 minutes (or less)!

Will my identity be safe and my information kept confidential?

Yes. When you complete the census, the U.S. Census Bureau is bound by law to protect your identity and keep your answers strictly confidential. The law ensures that your private information is never published and that your answers cannot be used against you by any government agency or court. Learn more about how the Bureau protects your privacy.
